Ariana Grande: “Problem” with Self-Tanning Lotion…

Summer, sun, sunshine – many of us wish for a summerly golden complexion, no matter how it currently looks like outside! The same does US actress and singer Ariana Grande.

Although the young Italo-Sicilian, also known from the teenage sitcom Victorious, belongs to the darker skin types anyway, she reaches for the self-tanning tube in winter to get more complexion. Even recently before her Meet&Greet in London. Her failed self-tanning attempt of course also did not escape her fans’ attention. Some of them thought the talented singer thereby lived up to her song Problem. A blotchy cleavage, yellow-colored fingers and palms gave away her problems with the tube.

Of course self-tanning lotion has also its advantages – you get brown without exposing your skin to “bad” UVA and UVB radiation, which are both included in solarium and natural sunlight. As is generally known, these are responsible for damage of genetic material of skin cells, which can lead to skin cancer. To top it all, skin is also aging visibly faster due to the so-called “photo aging”. But here it depends on the dosage, because UV light is also very important for health because it stimulates vitamin D3 (D hormone) synthesis. A certain skin tanning is not looking unhealthy for good reasons.

How can we – apart from self-tanning lotion – tan our skin without damaging it? Obviously people with darker skin are tolerating sun better. Wouldn’t it be possible to get the skins pigment cells to produce more of the dark pigment?

As a reader of my blog you know that there are already treatments of that kind: The administration of melanotropin, a peptide messenger substance, which stimulates our skins pigment cells to produce the pigment melanin and thereby causes a darker skin appearance bit by bit. In the course of this therapy a peptide molecule analogous to melanotropin (Melanotan I, Melanotan II) is administered to the patient.

Especially people of light skin type who have a disposition to painful sun burns benefit from such a therapy. Melanin produced in this way also had a protective effect against UV-induced sun damages of the skin and prevented premature skin aging.

However, at the moment the treatment is not freely accessible to everyone. Only patients with special light allergies in Italy or Switzerland are eligible to a treatment with the melanotropin analogue Melanotan I. In other countries patients could only get supplied with specially made melanotropin analogues in the context of a treatment which is tailored to their individual needs to protect their skin, whilst tanning.

Indeed melanotropin analogues only show their effect when getting off some sun. It doesn’t work completely without sun, because pigment cells are stimulated by sunlight to produce melanin. But especially in Hollywood, where Ariana lives, it would not even now lacking in sun, says

Everybody Waltz – The Ball Season Has Started: Everything for Your Perfect Performance on the Floor

A patient asks:

I have many wrinkles and sun damages on my face, neck, and cleavage. What can I do about it?

In our Clinic DDr. Heinrich® we offer outpatient treatments which can provide your desired look even at the last minute:

“Vampire Lifting”: Skin Rejuvenation with PRP

The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is obtained from a small amount of your own blood and gets injected into the skin gently. It is especially suitable for local skin rejuvenation because of its bio-effective ingredients. PRP refreshes you not only for the night of the prom, but also leaves a lasting effect for several months.

Treatment duration: 30 minutes to 1 hour

Skin Rejuvenation with Growth Factor and Stem Cells

In mesotherapy with growth factors small amounts of special growth factors from skin cells (epidermal growth factors) are injected into the skin. There they exert a tightening and rejuvenating effect.

Treatments with stem cells extracted from the body’s own fat allow for regeneration and rejuvenation of the skin that goes beyond the effect of growth factor treatment.

Treatment duration:
Growth factors: 30 minutes to 1 hour
Stem cells: 30 minutes to 3 hours

Power Infusion: Empowerment from the Inside

The so-called Myers’ Cocktail – a special mixture containing magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, and vitamin C – strengthens your body via infusion and supplies it with essential substances, which help you to start fitter through night and day.

Treatment duration: 5 appointments, 1 hour each

Regeneration Infusion as Detox Treatment

Sugar deposits caused by diabetes or diet-related toxins can be removed from the body with the help of alpha lipoic acid infusion therapy. Driving out the so-called “slags” from our tissues leads to a more vital body and more enjoyment of life.

Treatment duration: 5 appointments, 1 hour each

Fat-Away Injection (Injection Lipolysis) and
Liposuction with Microcannulas

Tiny fat pads in the facial region such as double chin and tear sacks can be broken down by injection of a natural fat-dissolving substance. In order to achieve the desired result two treatments are needed in most cases.

For the treatment of larger fad pads we recommend microcannular liposuction, which is very gentle because it is performed manually.

Treatment duration:
Fat-away injection: 30 to 90 minutes
Liposuction: 30 minutes to 3 hours

Pretreatments of Sun Damages

Some sun damages should initially be treated with the immunotherapeutic Imiquimod to prevent the development of malignant tumors. During this therapy sun damages inflame and in many cases skin areas concerned are healing, often even without scars.

For further skin regeneration we recommend a treatment with stem cells, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), or a mesotherapy with growth factors. If the skin is very dry, thin, and parchment-like stem cells should be injected into the skin together with autologous fat.

For further questions or arranging of an appointment we are gladly at your disposal.

We wish you a glamorous ball season!

Why is a Blood Analysis Absolutely Necessary for a Hormone Therapy?

A patient asks regarding a therapy with bioidentical hormones:

Do I need a comprehensive hormone status for a treatment with nature-identical hormones?

Yes, a comprehensive analysis of all relevant hormone values and a physical examination are preconditions in order to be able to start a therapy with bioidentical hormones (BHRT). Finally the treatments serves as adjustment of the body’s hormone levels through tailor-made supply of bioidentical hormones, wherefore a comprehensive anamnesis is as well required in addition to a complete hormone status.

The aim of a Hormonal Regeneration® by DDr. Heinrich with bioidentical hormones is to restore the hormonal balance. Hormonal imbalances can have different reasons. Psychological strain, distress, poor eating habits, or simply increasing age and the loss of hormonal glands efficiency related to aging can cause deficiencies and imbalances.

The consequences of hormonal imbalances make their presence felt both inward and outward:

Depending on lacking hormones general well-being is reduced, listlessness, fatigue, and premature skin aging, such as sunken or sagging cheeks, occur. Sudden overweight is often induced by the lack of hormones as well. If the body is lacking thyroxine of the thyroid gland, which is more frequently the case in women as in men, the metabolism is running only in energy saving mode, whereby the body burns less calories and stores more of them in form of fat depots. Even there bioidentical hormones can help to get rid of superfluous kilos again.

A therapy with bioidentical hormones, whether if for skin rejuvenation, weight loss, or other aims lasts 3 or 6 cycles (1 cylce = 28 days) and can be repeated if required.

Kate Moss – Addicted to Self-Tanning Lotion

Top models are often discovered at a very early age – this was also the case for Kate Moss, who got discovered at the tender age of 14 at the JFK airport in New York. In the meanwhile Kate Moss already belongs to the older model generation, but is still booked well. For more than 25 years the blonde who is just about 1.70 meters tall is jetting all around the world to do model jobs for well-known designers and making good money therewith.

Naturally such a success, particularly in this field, also brings along drawbacks: Alcohol and drug excesses, maternal neglect of her daughter Lily Grace, and many other things Kate is accused of by the media. However, shadow notoriously belongs to the light and at least her fans seem to not hold these excessive and sometimes irresponsible seeming “rides” against the ex of the potentially scandalous British pop singer Pete Doherty.

Recently the 41-year-old was chatting with the German paper Gala about a new – this time for a change quite harmless – addiction: It is about self-tanning lotion, which she fancies. “I can’t stand my pale skin. Sure, I am a sun worshipper, but everybody knows: That brings along wrinkles!” While in East Asian countries pale skin is considered to be particular noble, people in our regions are of the opinion that a healthy tan radiates more sex appeal. Now who wonders if both men and women are frying in the sun, as soon as it appears?

As reader of my blog you know that UVA and UVB radiation contained in sun light can lead to cell damage. Frying in the sun for hours is exceedingly hazardous to health, even the WHO is warning. Thereby not only the so-called “photo aging” is promoted, but also the development of skin cancer.

By the way, artificial UV light from the solarium is even considerably unhealthier than natural sunlight!

All these things persuade Kate to reach for the tan out of the tube. But those who have made their own experiences with self-tanning lotion know the adverse consequences. Blotchy skin, discolored clothes, and unpleasant smell are only a few of them. Of course it also does not protect against sunlight.

And sunlight is important! It is not only good for our soul, but also indispensable for our health: Without sunlight our skin is not able to produce vitamin D (“D hormone”), which is necessary for a number of important body functions. Well, now is sunlight beneficial or harmful? Poison and benefit – as often has been – is in the dose. And the right dose is simply varying for people of different skin types.

If you are of a light skin type like Kate a treatment with melanotropin analogues can help. Thereby your body is supplied with the hormone melanotropin or respectively a peptide (melanotan) with the same effect. It is providing an increased production of our skin pigment melanin for better skin protection against sunlight, as well as more visible tan – completely without the known harming effects of excessive sun baths or solarium visits. Melanotan is presently authorized only in some countries for therapy of rare sun allergies, but could also be proper for general use for skin protection.

For all those who want to avoid sun-induced skin damage, but nevertheless also attach importance to a Caribbean complexion, melanotropin analogues like melanotan would be a good alternative to self-tanning lotions, which do not give protection to the skin. But up to now this substances are not yet permitted for general use on humans and are therefore by default not prepared in purity and quality needed for that therapy. This is why such a tanning treatment is only possible with individually prepared substances in the context of a magistral therapy by a specialized doctor, even for famous models like Kate.

How Do We Manage to Get Bushy Eyebrows Again after Years of Plucking?

What do Cara Delevingne, Lilly Collins, and Emma Watson have in common? They make career with their appearance and are trendsetters of the current trend of bold eyebrows. While in the 90ies women plucked their brows until their absolute lack of functionality – best example: Christina Aguilera in her music video to Dirrty – we now celebrate a veritable comeback of bushy eyebrows. Whatever has triggered this excessive plucking – prominent eyebrows provide the eyes with more expression and are not only sexier in men. This is what we know again today.

Many women do just have one problem with that. They also would like to have “more”, but their brows simply seem to not grow or rather if they do, they only appear quite sparsely. Why? Through frequent removal of hair including the hair roots for years, growth has been reduced and the brows got thinner and thinner.

But thank God there is good news: We know several treatment methods, which can supply your brows – and by the way – also your hair new volume.

One of the ways to get rid of thin eyebrows is a treatment with autologous stem cells. The stem cells are isolated from the patient’s own fat tissue. The required fat is harvested by means of a gentle liposuction with microcannulas and the stem cells are injected into the areas desired immediately after extraction. Due to their especially growth-stimulating characteristics they do not only promote hair growth, but can also be used for skin rejuvenation in facial regions.

Another procedure for stimulating hair growth is platelet-rich plasma. It is a mixture of growth factors and platelets (thrombocytes), which originates from the patient’s own blood. Injection of PRP activates stem cells and brings about the desired “more”. Carried out as mesotherapy it is possible to only use growth factors as well.

If necessary and depending on the initial situation it is possible to combine the abovementioned therapies. Repetitions after several months can be useful to achieve an optimal result. Thus there is nothing else standing in your way to thick eyebrows like those of Cara, Lilly, and Emma.

Thick Eyebrows and Full Hair with Growth Factors and Stem Cells

Bushy brows à la Cara Delevingne: Treatment with growth factors and stem cells stimulates hair growth

Vienna (2015-11-18) — Up to now it was considered to be particularly feminine to pluck eyebrows and keep them as thin as possible. Now top model Cara Delevingne sets a trend with her bushy eyebrows. Those who plucked their eyebrows for years often realize that their brows now only grow back thin. There are different new types of treatments to provide eyebrows and hair thickness again: Hair follicle growth factors (HFGF), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), prostaglandins, and stem cells extracted from the patient’s own fat tissue.

“Stem cells from fat tissue and growth factors, such as can be extracted from blood, for example, support hair regeneration and have the potential to help thin eyebrows and hair to regrow,” says DDr. Karl-Georg Heinrich, physician from Vienna who is working in the field of regenerative and aesthetic medicine. In his Clinic DDr. Heinrich® growth factors and stem cells from autologous fat are also used for skin regeneration and treatment of wrinkles.

Platelet-rich plasma, a concentrate consisting of growth factors and thrombocytes (blood platelets), can be obtained from the patient’s blood. The growth factors are injected with micro-needles into the areas where they should activate stem cells and enhance hair growth.

Stem cells from body fat have considerable biological abilities, which can be used for hair growth therapy as well. The required stem cells are extracted from a small amount of fat that is harvested by liposuction with microcannulas on an outpatient basis. Afterwards stem cells are injected into the scalp or into the area of the eyebrows. Thereby existing hair can be strengthened and growth of new hair along the hair line can be stimulated.

Depending on the initial situation optimal results can be achieved through combination of growth factors and stem cells. It is possible to repeat the hair growth treatment after several months if required. “In many cases treatments with stem cells and growth factors can spare patients an elaborate hair transplantation,” concludes DDr. Heinrich.

Visible Facial Skin Rejuvenation with Bioidentical Hormones

Recently a patient asked me the following:

I live in Australia and I am interested in a rejuvenating treatment with hormonal regeneration. Do you have any before and after pictures of patients who underwent BHRT so I can see the effect?

Here are two photos, one was taken before and the other one after the treatment, showing the result of a treatment with bioidentical hormones (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, BHRT) on the patient’s face:

Before and after photograph of Mariannela Rozas

On the picture of our quite attractive patient taken before the treatment you see the typical signs of hormonal deficiency in 50-years-olds: A lean face and hollow cheeks because of missing hormones of the adrenal gland, slackening of the face around the mouth region owing to a lack of growth hormone, thin and dry skin due to a shortage of pregnenolone, tiny wrinkles in the face as a consequence of a reduced excretion of sexual hormones. On closer inspection you can recognize that the patient’s hair already got thinner at the hair line. This is a signal that male hormones were missing to a lesser extent than the female ones.

The other picture was taken after about 4 months in therapy and impressively shows how far the aging of the face could be reversed through hormonal regeneration. The patient looks a good 15 years younger, her face has now regained volume and tightness, skin is considerably uncreased and free from wrinkles. She looks awesome and did also feel respectively!

What’s the course of such a treatment? At the beginning of a Hormonal Regeneration® by DDr. Heinrich a comprehensive analysis is performed, which provides information about the hormonal status and the general state of health. This allows us to create an individualized therapy plan and to rebalance the body’s hormone levels.

As bioidentical hormones correspond to our human hormones in their chemical structure, the therapy is free from side effects when using the correct dosage. The duration of a Hormonal Regeneration® is mostly 3 to 6 cycles (1 cycle = 28 days) and can be repeated if required.

If you wish for a particularly impressive effect of regeneration, you can combine a therapy with bioidentical hormones with a stem cell treatment of the skin, which acts on a cellular level in addition.

Bioidentical Hormones Protect Heart and Vessels

A current study on US veterans now shows the importance of hormones for cardiovascular health. According to the result a therapy with bioidentical hormones – in this case particularly testosterone – has a protective effect on heart and vessels.

Especially one group of the study participants, all of them male high-risk patients with low testosterone levels, has attracted positive attention. Participants who were supplied with testosterone until their levels corresponded to the ones of young men, did have a lower risk of cardiovascular problems like heart attacks or strokes and also survival rate increased. A balanced hormone balance seems to play a big role in this.

Under certain circumstances administration of only one specific hormone as so-called monotherapy can make sense. However, as hormones in the body are influencing in a complex circuit, intake of all lacking hormones is recommendable. In the context of hormonal regeneration hormones are administered in bioidentical form, which correspond to our human hormones in their chemical structure.

The first step of the therapy is a comprehensive analysis of the current hormonal state. With this knowledge an individual therapy plan is created. Regular check-ups, in which blood parameters are evaluated, allow for frequent adaption of the therapy and thus to optimize the result. The treatment mostly lasts either 3 or 6 cycles (1 cycle = 28 days) and can be repeated on request.

Hormonal balance provides benefits to health and well-being increases. Depending on the administered bioidentical hormones a protection of the cardiovascular system, general strengthening, improvement of libido or potency, reduction of tiny wrinkles, or weight loss can be achieved.

Stress Management with Bioidentical Hormones (BHRT)

The typical everyday life: One appointment after the other, a crowded desk, burdens in household, and family into the bargain. Stress, overload, and exhaustion are bound to occur.

Furthermore, constant weakness, fatigue, and listlessness could be symptoms of a “burnout”. This clinical picture describes the condition of chronic fatigue as a result of permanent physical, psychic, and emotional overload.

Bioidentical Hormones: Prevention and Source of Energy

Bioidentical Hormones can help to cope with stress and strengthen your body from the inside. To supply your body with new energy and prevent burnout we recommend administering those bioidentical hormones which are essential for stress management.

In our Western world it’s normally not possible to simply free yourself from stress in private and family life, so that stress does never arise at all. However good the resolutions of lifestyle change may be, they often fail because: Who is going to pay the bills? Who goes for shopping? Who is looking after the children?

Bioidentical hormones aren’t foreign substances for our body. They are, as their name suggests, identical with our body’s own hormones. In the context of a Hormonal Regeneration® (Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, BHRT) lacking hormones are administered after a comprehensive analysis of the current state of health and hormone levels are once again re-balanced.

Combined with other vitalizing substances your body is strengthened from the inside and made fit for everyday burdens, with the objective of helping you to acquire more joy of life, power, and energy.

Gladly we can discuss your symptoms, your lifestyle, and a therapy for stress management adapted to your own requirements in the context of an initial consultation in our clinic.

Telomerase: Fountain of Youth from the Chinese Alchemy?

It is worthwhile to explore the active substances used in traditional medicine and alchemy with the methods of today’s science. Again and again substances are found which have a high regenerative potential from which we can benefit, especially in the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine).

In old China rejuvenation and life extension were central objectives, especially of the ruling class. Those who could afford it recruited alchemists, who should give a hand to them to realize this goal. Often attempts have failed, and as you know as a reader of my blog the founder of China, emperor Huang Di, is said to have died from an overdose of cinnabar about 200 BC. This poisonous mercury compound was highly popular as rejuvenation agent at that time. Because Huang Di was a realist and didn’t believe in his immortality, he charged building of a huge pyramid grave and an army to guard his mortal remains. His grave is by the way still unopened; according to the legend he was buried on an island in a sea of mercury. There seems to be a truth to this, because drillings have shown that the mercury content in the pyramid grave is very high.

But not all of the doctors and alchemists were using mercury. Many of them made use of herbs, roots, and animal organs to regenerate. The plant Astragalus for example is a proven regeneration remedy of TCM.

Western scientists examined a concentrate of Astragalus in the laboratory and noticed that it extends the so-called telomeres and hence the lifetime of the investigated cells as well. In every cell division telomeres in the chromosomes are getting shorter by a tiny bit, this is why the number of cell divisions is limited. Once the telomeres are used up, the cell dies. Due to this matter of fact the regenerative capacity of our body is fading away with increasing age, as does the skin’s ability to regenerate itself.

Thus it makes sense to reverse the shortening of telomeres to prolong the cells’ lifespan. This requires an enzyme for telomere extension, the so-called telomerase. At present no approved drugs with such an effect are available, however, the substance TA-65 has already been experimentally tested as activator of the telomerase. And TA-65 is essentially a concentrate out of Astragalus.

Our experience has shown improving skin quality when taken over a longer period, whereby, for instance, sun damages have formed back. The skin gets more radiant and fresher, even the general well-being is bettering. At the moment TA-65 is still very expensive and does scarcely operate only satisfactory when dosing very high. Perhaps it will carry out as combination treatment with hormonal or stem cell therapies in future.

Currently we especially make use of the therapy with bioidentical hormones (Bioidentical Hormonal Regeneration Therapy, BHRT) and the treatment with autologous stem cells for regeneration and general increase in vitality.

If you want you can already have the treatment with TA-65 in our clinic, preferably in combination with bioidentical hormones and stem cells. It is certainly the case that Huang Di would have done better and lived longer when taking in Astragalus instead of poisonous cinnabar in those days, says
