It contains adult stem cells as well as many other important types of cells, which have been proven to increase circulation in the damaged cardiac muscle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe great challenge in cardiovascular cell therapy lies in obtaining a sufficient number of stem cells and regenerative cells,\u201d says Francisco J. Fern\u00e1ndez-Avil\u00e9s, head of the Department of Cardiology at the Hospital Universitario Gregorio Mara\u00f1\u00f3n and one of the researchers in the APOLLO trial, \u201cuntil now we have been treating a few patients suffering from chronic cardiac ischemia and we were able to harvest a sufficient amount of the body\u2019s own cells in real time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The APOLLO trial is a randomized, placebo-controlled trial on 48 patients.
